Accordingly, art course content returns to a first semester of 2D “flat” art, and a second semester of 3D sculptural art. Due to increased class size numbers this year, not all students can be scheduled for both 2D and 3D art.

Class activities explore a range of media, techniques and subject matter as guided by national core curriculum standards for visual art.

Project work broadens students’ understanding of technical versatility, historical/cultural context, reflective evaluation and presentation, and interdisciplinary connections.

Below is a summary of sample class lesson activities listed by grade.

Art 2D

Lesson activities include Plein air pastel landscape, Jacob Lawrence figure scene, Cartoon drawing, Pop art portrait painting, Jungle landscape painting, and Color wheel tessellation painting.

Art 3D

Lesson activities Agamograph design, Haring figure sculpture, Paper machee animal sculpture, and Paper machee portrait sculpture.

Additional Art Class Information

Specific projects and their sequence vary from one marking period to another. Materials and resources for class activities are available electronically on Schoology under Art class. Displays of student artwork are arranged periodically throughout the year both in-house and in community settings. Art Class Grading

GRADING:

Students will have a minimum of 9 grades for each class.
Grades will be updated every 2 weeks.

The grade book utilizes two categories:

Progress checks – 40% of grade.
- This category includes classwork, group work, projects, presentations, etc.
Common/Summative assessments – 60% of grade
- This category includes culminating assignments such as final projects, independent study, portfolio review, work presentation, etc.

The secondary grading scale is as follows:

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Students will follow district guidelines concerning attendance, use of electronics, and code of conduct. Detailed policies can be found under parent resources on the district homepage. Attendance guidelines can be found under the board of education tab, CHSD board policy #204. For classroom management an art class respect agreement is established at the start of the marking period, is open to revision throughout the term and is available for review upon request.
