We have seven units from the Amplify Science Curriculum, which is based on the Next Generation Science Standards, that intertwine throughout the school year. The general focus is how energy moves through systems.

• Harnessing Human Energy
• Force and Motion
• Thermal Energy
• Phase Change
• Magnetic Fields
• Chemical Reactions
• Light Waves

We will be applying different concepts throughout the year in different contexts to truly connect these sciences and make them relatable and understandable. 

• The relationships between different types of energy and the ways energy is transferred and converted.
• The relationship between force, change in velocity, mass, and the equal and opposite forces exerted during collisions
• The relationship between energy and temperature and the molecular nature of temperature and its relationship to kinetic energy
• That the molecules of a substance move differently when that substance is in different phases. In addition, they will understand how the kinetic energy of molecules and the attraction between the molecules affect the way in which the molecules move. 
• How magnets move some objects at a distance, the source of the energy for that movement, and what causes differences in energy and forces involved.
• How light interacts with materials and how these interactions affect our world, from the colors we see to changes caused by light from the sun, such as warmth, growth, and damage.
• About the differences in the make-up of substances, their properties, and atomic composition, and conservation of matter.

• Access your student's Schoology account to see exactly what is expected of them daily, weekly, etc.
• Check Home Access weekly. This looks directly into my grade book. I will work diligently to make sure I update often. (We have evening conferences at the end of each marking period.)

In order to be successful this year, carefully read the following information concerning classroom expectations and policies.  I believe that each student can be academically successful and I look forward to working with you and monitoring your progress this year.

Students are expected to…

• Have a positive attitude towards learning by respecting themselves and others while in the science classroom.
• Arrive to class promptly, prepared to work productively, and be engaged in learning. On-time to class is defined as being seated and prepared to learn.
• Be prepared for class each day by bringing their lab book, charged iPad, and pen/pencil/highlighters/colored pencils.
• Follow all science safety procedures and directions while in this class.
• Act appropriately by behaving in an orderly, safe, and responsible manner while in this class.
• Work to the best of their ability and be proud of their own work.  The copying of work, which is not your own, is unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated.
• Follow all Code of Conduct and Dress Policies.
